Fall in the Lowcountry

I love the fall on Hilton Head with all of the festivals and especially when the local oysters are in season. The oysters have a delicious salty taste unlike oysters from other parts of the country. If you are on the island this weekend, the annual Oyster Festival is being held 11/9 from 5-8 and 11/10 from 11-5. The Hilton Head Oyster Festival highlights steamed, fried and stewed oysters along with other food for non-oyster eaters! There will be live entertainment, kid zone, marshmallow roasting and Sports Lounge for those fall Football games!

While some like to eat the oysters raw, I prefer mine to be steamed. There are many ways to steam oysters. We have a cooker that makes it easy. You can also steam them on your grill. Just heat the grill to 450-500, place the oysters on the grill, cover with a wet cloth, close the lid and let them steam for 10-12 minutes, just enough that the oyster shells are slightly open. This is an easy way to have your own oyster roast!

Happy Fall!
