The start of summer comes the anticipation of one of Hilton Head’s favorite summer celebrations, July 4th. With numerous events across the Island, there’s something for everyone to enjoy on this upcoming Independence Day.
34th Annual Hilton Head Island Firecracker 5K
Kick off the holiday with a spring in your step at the 34th Annual Hilton Head Island Firecracker 5K and Family Fun Walk. Beginning at 8 a.m. in Jarvis Creek Park, the Firecracker 5K is the oldest and largest road race in Beaufort County, as well as one of the top 10 races in South Carolina. Over 1,700 runners and walkers annually from all over the U.S. participate in this fun and patriotic events. Participants and onlookers are encouraged to show off their star-spangled spirit.
Following the race, festivities continue with the Children’s Fun Run, music, fresh fruit, refreshments, door prizes, and more. A percentage of the proceeds from the event benefit local groups, including the Hilton Head Rotary Club and Hilton Head High School Cross Country Team, among others.

Registration to be in the parade begins at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot adjacent from Harbour Town Lighthouse; decorating supplies are also available for the first 100 participants to register. Parade line-up will begin at 9:30 a.m. All participants will be judged based on patriotism, so be bold with your red, white, and blue pride!
In Bluffton, the Children’s Parade is perfect entertainment for kids of all ages. Hosted by The Store on Calhoun Street, the parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Cross.
Salute from the Shore
Founded in 2010, Salute from the Shore is meant to honor America’s armed forces with a military craft flyover. This year, the flyover starts at approximately 1 p.m. at Cherry Grove in the Myrtle Beach area and concludes at the sand bar on May River in Bluffton. Bring your chairs and head to the beach that afternoon to enjoy the flyover. To “salute” America’s armed forces, visitors are strongly encouraged by Salute from the Shore to dress in their most patriotic beach attire, or to even come up with a creative patriotic display.
Visit their press release or Facebook page for additional information.
Fireworks Celebration
Finish the night off with a spectacular fireworks show, best seen at iconic Hilton Head locations, including Harbour Town in Sea Pines, Skull Creek Boathouse, and Palmetto Dunes that also features family-friendly activities for the evening at Shelter Cove. All firework shows will begin at dusk.
No matter how you decide to celebrate, Hilton Head is the perfect location for all July 4th festivities.
